What We Believe
We believe in God's
Grace
Grace - the beautiful
free gift of God's love for every person. It is
a love you cannot work to gain, but only accept
and share. Jesus showed God's Grace to us when
he ate with sinners, when he taught on the hillside,
when he died upon the cross, and when he arose
from the grave.
We believe in the
dignity and the responsibility of all people
Human beings are the crown
of God's creation of the world. God, who is like
a father and a mother, has brought each of us
to life. Every person is a special child of God.
Because all persons are our brothers and sisters,
we will work to bring them to the love of Christ,
to bring about justice and equality, to be messengers
of peace, and to bear each other's burdens.
We believe in conversion
and the new birth
"God so loved the
world that he gave his only Son, that everyone
who believes in him may not perish but may have
eternal life" (John 3:16). A change happens
in people when they turn away from selfishness
and sin and experience the love of Christ. For
some, the experience is sudden. For others, conversion
happens after years of being in the church - when
one is able to say for himself or herself, "Jesus,
you are my Lord and my Savior."
We believe faith and
good works belong together
Love of Christ must overflow
into a love for all people. The Letter of James
says, "Faith by itself, if it has no works,
is dead" (2:17). A personal experience with
Christ will lead one to where Christ travels -
among the broken of our world.
We believe in a connectional
and ecumenical church
We believe all Christians
are bound together as the family of God. We believe
in a church that works together, sharing insights
and resources to reach all for Christ. We desire
not only to connect with other United Methodist
churches, but also with churches of other denominations.
"Ecumenical" means "the entire
world." Our prayer is that all Christians
throughout the world work together for our one
Lord, Jesus Christ.
